Ah, mike, as if I didn’t like you enough already now it turns out you’re a Tom Waits fan (and rowan is too!) Fabulous.
(Unless you’ve ever managed to see him live, in which case I hate you, I hate you, I hate you!)

Well next time I see you we will have to talk Tom Waits! I am a big fan.
Yes I did see him live once (please don’t hate me!) Ten years ago in Paris, and the last song he did was Come on up to the House. Absolutely wonderful.
I haven’t found it easy with the crying baby but having an excuse to put some music on that I like has made it easier. rowan also seems to like Caz’s bluegrass-plucky-banjos music.

I tried to see him live in ’04. The full sorry story is here: http://daveshelton.blogspot.com/2004/09/world-is-wrong.html

Oh, Dave, that is quite sad but it is a good story, about how you came by Swordfishtrombones. All good music is like that I think — it keeps on giving. For me Tom Waits is the worlds no.1 living genius, but I won’t go on about it here in case I embarrass myself further.
By the way, I tried the same thing in 04, with the same result.
