Dungeness lighthouse and nuclear power station painting

While we were on the south coast I did some sketching at Dungeness. It’s got to be one of the best places in the UK to go with a pad and pencil. It’s got everything, including loads of messy telegraph poles, which I particularly love drawing.

Caz’s dad is responsible for the design of part of the nuclear power station, but I can’t remember which bit.

These are beautiful. I love the scale of the lighthouse against the shacks and telegraph wires. Makes me want to go and visit. Pam

These are very fine. I was there just last week. Did you find Derek Jarman’s beach house and garden?

Thank you! It’s a lovely place, with a great alien atmosphere.

Yes we got some photos of Derek Jarman’s garden. Last time I was there, years ago, a friend of mine took home some pebbles for her garden, and a few weeks later one of those giant sea cabbage things was growing in her flower bed. It died down completely but still comes back every year.

I drew some pictures of crumbling boats too, but they were so bad I was embarrassed to post them here.

I was there last week with Thomas and seeing these makes me want to go back with pencils and sketchbook and without two small boys, lovely though they are!
